This web site has been created to document my construction of a Bearhawk Patrol Aircraft from plans. I will attempt to show all methods and procedures used as well as lessons learned so that others who build this fine aircraft won't have to make my same mistakes.

This is a picture of the prototype Patrol built by the designer Bob Barrows.

Bearhawk Patrol

The PATROL is a tandem two seat high wing aircraft designed for comfort, endurance and fun. The generous proportions of the cabin provide plenty of room for just about any sized pilot, a passenger (or two if they are small) and gear. The available visibility is outstanding both on the ground and in the air. The PATROL'S flight controls are light and very responsive at cruise and slow speeds. The low landing speeds are further enhanced by the use of the manually operated flaps. The trim lever is located at the top of the cabin for use by both pilot positions.

The PATROL can stay in the air for a very long time. With the 0-360 Lycoming pulled back for maximum endurance, a steady 100+ mph is maintained and time aloft can be nearly nine hours. The PATROL'S fifty-five gallons of fuel ensure that there are not many places it can't reach and make it back home safely.

Most importantly the PATROL is a fun airplane to fly. The average pilot easily utilizes the remarkable performance. The stick controls connect the pilot to the aircraft in a way that a yoke can't. The PATROL can land in many fields that you would not even consider with other airplanes, the eighteen feet of available flaps see to that. A whole new world of aviation is opened up to the private pilot with this plans built aircraft.

The Prototype Bearhawk PATROL is powered by a 0-360 Lycoming 180hp engine swinging a fixed pitch aluminum propeller. The fabric covered steel tub fuselage is a time proven way to build a strong and durable structure. The all aluminum wing features a Riblett 30-413.5 airfoil and 40 degrees of available flaps settings.

  • Plans are available from R&B Aircraft, 2079 Breckinridge Mill Rd. Fincastle VA 24090, USA.

The Builder

My name is Larry Foor and I am retired from the USAF after 22 years as an Air Traffic Controller and Radar technician. I currently work for the FAA as a Flight Service Specialist rotating to Nome, Kotzebue, Deadhorse and Fairbanks Flight Service Stations.

I have always been a home craftsman and tinkered around building, campers, boats, furniture and remote controlled aircraft (B Pattern). I worked for a while fabricating snow plows for the state of Colorado Summit County Road and Bridge Dept and even worked underground at the Climax Mine in Leadville Colorado.

This will be my first aircraft project and to date I have really enjoyed it. I hold a Private pilot SEL SES Instrument Rating with about 250 hours total time all in Alaska. I have flown C206, C180, C172XP, DH2, and Citabria 7GCBC. I look forward to my Patrol on floats.
